Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again
Where do I even begin? I'll start by saying this movie is incredible. Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is a 'feel good' movie that definitely lived up to its expectations. Before going into the review, I would like a share a bit about the previous movie which was released a decade ago - Mamma Mia, 2008. I was 10 years old when the first movie came out therefore it didn't interest me to go see it in theatres then but I remember my music teacher from my primary school promoting the movie as she said it was extremely uplifting. I did end up watching the movie a few years later in my teens and I loved it. I watched it again earlier this year and a small part of me felt like I related to it greatly - the part of her mother travelling the world alone which if you know me you would know that it is something I live to do and have done many times in the past year (not the getting knocked up part though). I I strongly recommend watching Mamma Mia that before going to the theatres to watch Mamma Mia 2 as there are a lot of references made to the previous movie. Additionally, it may be slightly confusing to watch the second one if you haven't watched the first.
Back to Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. I love how the whole Mamma Mia world makes you feel like anything is possible. Every character in the movie are positive and enthusiastic people who do not let obstacles stop them from the big dreams they are chasing and some may call it unrealistic or foolish but the last year and half has been an amazing ride for me and I genuinely believe that anything is possible as long you keep running towards where you want to be and do not let people deter you as no one else knows what you're capable off other than you. Therefore, watching a movie like this can put you in an amazing mood. Moreover, when I watch movies I tend to submerge myself into the movie world and I get transported another place. This movie in particular provided a magical place to go to. If you're looking for a movie to watch on your own this would be really good.
If you are already a fan of the previous movie, I would like to warn you that you do not see much of Meryl Streep this time around but when you do see her, you would probably be in tears. There are mixed feelings about Meryl Streep's presence in the sequel, as many fans wanted to see more of her. However, I do understand the creative decision to have less of Meryl Streep as her character's backstory was very intriguing in the first movie so it was understandable that they go into that in the second movie and that means we see the younger version of Meryl Streep's character and less of Meryl Streep herself and may I add Lily James did an amazing job and I personally preferred her version of Mamma Mia more.
